According toThe Orlando Sentinel George Zimmerman has told investigators that during his 911 phone call, Trayvon Martin was circling his SUV on foot.
And he has further claimed that during the fight Trayvon Martin tried to cover Zimmerman’s mouth, and that Martin was reaching for his gun.
The Sentinel’s reporters Rene Stutzman and Jeff Weiner have a source saying that Zimmerman has been sticking to his story:
The source said Zimmerman’s account of events hasn’t changed in his several statements to police — in which he said he was so unnerved by the teen’s behaviour that he rolled up his window to avoid a confrontation. However, he never mentioned any of that while talking to the dispatcher.
Naturally, the lead attorney for Trayvon Martin’s parents, Benjamin Crump says that these claims contradict earlier ones in which Zimmerman says that it was he who was crying out for help in the 911 calls. How could he cry out if he was being muffled by Trayvon Martin?
“It’s either one or the other, it can’t be both,” Crump said. “We have to put together this puzzle because, unfortunately, we don’t have Trayvon Martin’s version” of events.
If Zimmerman’s claims that Martin acted menacingly before the fight and reached for the gun during it can be substantiated, it will be awfully difficult to convict him of murder in the second degree.
