Remember when YouTube was doomed? Things are looking a lot better today.

A week ago Doug Anmuth of Barclays said YouTube would be profitable this year on $700 million in revenue.

On last night’s earnings call, executives of the company gave Doug a reason to believe he was right.

They said the homepage for YouTube was nearly soldout last quarter. And Eric Schmidt said “what we are continuing to see on YouTube is that it has gone from being a nice to have to an essential part of the media mix of any display campaign.”

It sounds pretty good, but the company isn’t declaring “mission accomplished” just yet.

When asked specifically if YouTube is profitable, Eric Schmdit gives the FT this wishy-washy answer: “I’d assume so, yes.”
