A Wrangler spokesperson tells CNBC that they did not withdraw their usual Brett Favre campaign because of any scandal. They say they never meant to show them in the first place.
The spokesman claims this was part of the strategy all along and that the company had previously planned to “run fewer ads from mid-October through mid-November, to save money for the holiday season.”
Oh, they still ran ads during NFL telecasts this weekend. They just chose to run ads featuring a NASCAR driver, instead of their most well-known and (previously) marketable spokesmodel, who just happens to be a professional football player. Seems like an odd strategy, doesn’t it?
