Go Inside The World's First 'Instagram Hotel' In Sydney, Australia

The world’s first “Instagram hotel” –inspired by the photo-sharing app –is certainly photogenic.

With a five-story atrium, exposed brick walls, and colourful furniture, Sydney’s new 1888 Hotel provides plenty of photo ops for its social media-savvy guests.

It reopened this year as part of the 8Hotels stable after a $30m makeover.

The 90-room boutique hotel sits in a historic building in the city’s Pyrmont neighbourhood, and it’s now making a splash on the photo-sharing site, according to CNN’s Michael Stoneman.

Screens at the reception desk display a constantly updated feed of photos uploaded with the #1888hotel hashtag, while guests can proceed to the specially designated “selfie space” and take a photo behind a gilt frame.

Instagram users with more than 10,000 followers get a free night’s stay, as does the guest who posts the most creative shot of the hotel each month.

The colourful furniture and airy atmosphere of the lobby give guests plenty of Instagram-worthy photo ops.

At reception, computer screens display a constantly updated Instagram feed.

Period windows let in an abundance of light, and complimentary iPads allow guests to order room service, control room temperature, or look up restaurant recommendations.

Each suite has its own unique layout that plays upon the building's original architecture.

The Williamson is a private suite with its own entrance, 55' flatscreen TV, and cocktail bar.

Guests can pose for selfies behind a gilt-edged frame.

The front desk provides maps that will take guests to the neighbourhood's most Instagrammable locations.

The hotel selects the best photos uploaded each month and awards the winner a free night's stay.
