Why Waiting for Oracle Could Cost You Your Job

Good morning, and welcome to Friday. Today’s business problems need to be addressed today, not by vaporware that can be implemented a year from now. CIOs who wait for Oracle ‘s cloud-based application suites to find their way into their shops may find themselves overtaken by events and, ultimately, out of work.

Oracle this week announced — finally — a slew of applications and database technology served over the Internet. But with pricing and availability still up in the air, CIOs don’t have a real product to evaluate, leaving smart CIOs in search of best-of-breed applications from a raft of smaller vendors. Flextronics CIO Dave Smoley tells CIO Journal, “The world is changing so fast that you can’t wait… you have to hunt down these small companies” that provide more innovative technology.
