There are thousands of alternate search engines to Google. Bing, Yahoo, and AskJeeves are just a few of the more popular alternative search engines. But why do people use these search engines?
Bing has a search engine market share of 9.7%. Many people agree that Google’s search results are better. But people still go to Bing. Why is that? When you log out of Ho tmail, you are led to msn.com, which promotes Bing. When you install Internet Explorer, msn.com automatically becomes your homepage, which promotes Bing. Computer illiterate people don’t know how to change their homepage. Thus, those people are most likely to use Bing for their searches.
Yahoo’s search engine market share stands at 11.7%. Many people agree that Yahoo search is worse than Google’s search engine. So why do people still use Yahoo for searching stuff on the internet? Yahoo offers a host of other services, such as Yahoo Answers, email, Yahoo Finance, News, etc. Most people go to Yahoo for these services. As they browse through these services, some people decide to give Yahoo’s search engine a try, since it is on the webpage. In other words, some people use Yahoo search because it is convenient.
AskJeeves has a search engine market share of 5%. Some teachers, professors, and people use AskJeeves because they say its’ search results contain a lot of scholarly written webpages. These people mostly use AskJeeves for academic purposes.
In the age of Google, many other search engines still survive. People use these search engines because they have a need for a specific type of search engine.
