T2 Partners Plummets 9% In September, Whitney Tilson Says Big Losers Will Be Big Gainers

whitney tilson

Tilson’s T2 fund had a rough August and the decline continues, although their losses vs the market slowed down—Tilson lost 9.5% in September vs. -7.0% for the S&P 500. (In August T2 lost 13.3% vs. S&P -5.4%.)

Their biggest loser was Groupo Prisa, down 32.9%. Other losers have been getting creamed in the stock market, too, like Citigroup and Goldman.

Microsoft was also a loser for him. Recently, Tilson just dumped a bunch of Microsoft in favour of Dell.

Our big takeaway is that he assures clients that poor performance will bounce back because now is just like 2008. His fund performed poorly at first, then it did well.
