White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley was interviewed by CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell yesterday at The Atlantic’s Washington Ideas Forum. about his success at reaching out to the business community.”It’s going great,” he joked. “Can’t you tell — I mean, you know things are going really great. The debt ceiling was no problem and the business community loves us, and they love the rhetoric — there are just no problems.”
Daley, a former JPMorgan executive, was brought in to replace Rahm Emanuel to strengthen ties with the business community — though the opposite has been true under his tenure.
While Obama has earned the support of some executives life General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt, Daley has been unable to smooth over the intense anger many on Wall Street feel toward the administration as it targets fees and promotes consumer protection and other regulations.
