When You Should Stop Obsessing About Your Job Search

How many of us put too much stock into something we have little control over? The same challenge often occurs when we look for a new job.We polish our resumes, practice our pitch, leverage relationships to get in the door, and then agonize over every single thing. Whether it be an email reply, the answer during an interview, or the number of days to wait before following up, it can be hard not to obsess about next steps.

Unfortunately, instead of creating positive movement, that obsession: a) puts too much power in the hands of your potential employer and b) saps the energy you could be using to apply to other positions.

Yes, it’s important to prepare, strategize, plan carefully and think through every move strategically. It’s then equally important to let it go (knowing you’ve done your best) and move on to other applications.
