Spring racing season is upon us.

All eyes aren’t just on the horses though. It’s the time of the year to dress to impress, and fashions on the field is an institution in its own right.

We asked fashion website Who What Wear‘s writer and producer Lara Burnell for her top tips on what to expect to see worn by racegoers this season.

She says feminine ruffles and florals are in, as are polkadots and interesting sleeve details.

You can completely change the look of an outfit by the way you accessorise it. If you’re not into the huge, colourful ostentatious hats and fascinators, (or want to take it off and tuck it into your bag later) a simple headband or headscarf are right on trend.

In regards to bags, smaller is better, and a lot of key pieces have a shoulder strap or wristlet so you don’t have to clutch your purse in your hand all day.
