This fall, we’ll be getting a third “Thor” movie!
While Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are set to reprise their roles as the God of Thunder and Loki, respectively, not a whole lot more has been known about the sequel.
Get excited, because Disney has revealed the synopsis for “Thor: Ragnarok,” and it’s not sounding good for the Avenger.
In a press preview for the studio’s lineup of 2017 movies, Disney revealed our hero will be locked up without his mighty hammer in “Thor 3.” That may not come as a surprise to fans who are familiar with the Ragnarok story line which sees Thor disappearing and a clone(!) made by Tony Stark named Ragnarok taking his place.
Here’s the official synopsis in full:
In Marvel Studios’ “Thor Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilisation — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!
There’s a lot to unpack there.
First, Thor is really going to have his hands full! Also, why is the Hulk fighting with Thor?
For those unfamiliar with Hela, she’s the Asgardian goddess of death. Her addition is huge because, in the comics, she’s the alleged daughter of Loki.
The synopsis also confirms that Anthony Hopkins will be back! He played Thor’s father Odin and the ruler of Asgard in the first two films. At the end of the second movie his character was presumed killed off by Loki, who then took over Asgard masquerading as Odin. In an end-credits scene for “Doctor Strange” we saw (presumably) the real Thor tell Strange he’s on Earth searching for his dad. Interesting, indeed.
“Thor: Ragnarok” will be in theatres November 3, 2017.
