Please allow us to introduce the latest addition to the Business Insider family: The Sports Page. Since TBI has long concerned itself with the games business people play, it only makes sense that we take a closer look at the business of the games everyone watches.
We’ll be following the same teams and matchups and personalities you find on SportsCenter, but looking at them through the prism of money and industry. You cannot be a sports fan in the modern age without at least a passing knowledge of the economics of your favourite games and leagues. And true fanatics know that signing bonuses and cap numbers are statistics just as vital to understanding any game as touchdowns and batting average.
Anytime you find yourself scratching your head over a general manager’s latest “idiotic” trade; or wondering why your favourite player didn’t show up to work on time; or you find yourself confused about something as simple as the new stripe on a team’s uniform, the answer almost always comes back the same: It’s the money. You follow sports? You’ve gotta follow the money.
This will be the site for sports fans who want to know more about the inner workings of the sports world, but also business-minded people who know that there’s money to made–a lot of it–in our favourite pastimes.
If you want to join in the fun, drop us a line at [email protected]. Send us story tips, suggestions or just say hello. Our readers will shape this site, so let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll do our best to provide.
Finally, we promise to always give 110%, take it one game at a time, and stay within ourselves as we leave it all on the field, and maintain our poise, while just trying to have fun out there. Day-to-day. Now let’s see some hustle!
