Here's Why Amazon's New Pet Store Isn't Insane

wag quidsi

Quidsi, the parent company of, which is owned by Amazon, just launched, a pet supplies store. Cue the jokes.

But, wasn’t a bad idea, it just had bad timing. Pet supplies are a huge segment of spending online.

And pet supplies have the same business characteristics as Quidsi’s other ventures like (kid supplies) and (daily necessities): basic staples that build scale and repeat business, and higher-margin products for profits. probably loses money on every diaper it sells, but it does so happily because it turns it gives them scale and when parents buy other toy supplies like strollers and toys that have huge margins they go to them first.

It’s a smart move from Quidsi.
