While Ferrari may be showing off its latest speed machine, Volkswagen just cut the roof off of our favourite hot hatchback. The Golf has been made into a cabriolet for the better part of 20 years, but there has never been a production version with the iconic GTI badge on board.

Well, that is all about to change.

According to Volkswagen, the 207 horsepower GTI Cabrio is the most powerful Golf convertible ever made.

The GTI Cabrio does not have a folding metal roof, and instead features a folding fabric roof that only takes nine seconds to go down.

VW’s press release does not state if the car will be making it to America. Since the current Golf Cabrio is not sold on these shores, we are not holding our breath for it to arrive here.

The new car will make its debut in the flesh at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
