Virgin Founder Richard Branson Just Invested In Square

Square CEO Jack Dorsey said today Virgin founder Richard Branson has invested in Square.Branson took part in Square’s most recent round of funding. Square raised $100 million in its third round of funding, which was led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Here’s the statement from Virgin:

Richard Branson took interest in Square’s rapid growth and novel technology, in particular its free hardware that allows anyone to accept credit card payments anywhere, anytime.

He said: “I’m very passionate about helping people start and grow successful businesses, and Square is an incredible technology that inspires and empowers everyone to be an entrepreneur.”

Square now processes more than $2 billion in payments each year and plans to expand internationally next year, the company said.
