Virgin Australia will be the first airline outside North America to launch voice check-in through Alexa for passengers with their Velocity frequent flyer membership linked to Amazon’s online virtual assistant.
Alongside the voice check-in capability, which will be available from next week, you’ll be able to ask a range of questions to Alexa about your flight, including the departure time, flight number and booking reference.
Virgin Australia Chief Information Officer, Cameron Stone, said using technology to streamline travel is a key priority for the airline and more initiatives are coming.
“Allowing our passengers to check-in for their flight with Amazon Alexa is a very exciting addition to our existing skill in the Alexa Skills Store,” he said.
Virgin Australia launched in the Alexa Skills Store in February this year and the most used feature is travellers checking their flight status, followed by checking their Velocity points balance.
