Ali Murad, who was driving behind Lettieri at the time, captured footage of the incident on his car’s dash cam.

“She was driving a big SUV, I was driving a smaller car… it would have crushed my car,” Murad told Nine News Australia.

The sign had been in place in since 2017. And multiple authorities familiar with the incident say they are unsure why it fell.

“There was no visible sign this was going to occur,” Robyn Seymour a spokesperson for VicRoads, which controls the signage, told Nine News Australia.
