The US Flag Flew Away During The Women's Tennis Medal Ceremony And Somebody Tried To Hide It From You [UPDATE]

During the Olympic medal ceremony for women’s tennis today at the All-England Club in Wimbledon, the U.S. flag came detached from the hoist and flew away during the playing of the national anthem of The United States. Of course, somebody (NBC?) tried to hide this from the viewers, but like much of their Olympics coverage, they couldn’t even do that right.

At first, it was unclear what had occurred. At the 1:50 mark of the video below, you can hear the audience gasp and Serena Williams starts laughing. The broadcast didn’t show a close-up of the flags again after that point and it left the viewing audience wondering what happened.

But later on, at the 3:10 mark of the video, as the medal winners were pausing for photographs, you can see the flags in the background with the American flag missing and what appears to be an attendant holding the flag that fell.

[UPDATE] During their evening broadcast, NBC did show the flag fall from the hoist during a brief highlights clip (see the second video below).

And once again, NBC forgot to give us a spoiler warning…
