If The NFL Wants To Limit Concussions, Teach Players To Tackle Like This Rugby Player

While the NFL helmet has become better at protecting the players, it has also become more of a weapon in recent years as players have gone away from wrapping up ball carriers and are more intent on delivering a blow worthy of SportsCenter.

Of course, the NFL could require a soft shell be applied to all helmets, but that would look dorky, and wouldn’t sound nearly as cool on television. Instead, maybe the NFL just needs to find a way to get players back to tackling fundamentals.

The video below if from a recent rugby match in Australia. And as we can see, the rather large fella, Pek Cowan, demonstrates that a solid fundamental tackle can still be brutal, and it can still look cool.

And everybody wins! Well, the ballcarrier still doesn’t win. But at least he’ll remember the game…
