One of the hottest topics among economists and analysts this year is the anticipation of the housing bottom,” but according to former rapper and current mansion-flipper Vanilla Ice, the bottom is long past the housing market has been flying high.”I think it’s better than ever,” Vanilla Ice said of the housing market in an interview with CNBC. “I think the most important thing is that ‘yesterday’s history, tomorrow’s a mystery.’ Take it day by day and know your markets.”
Vanilla Ice—whose real name is Robert Van Winkle—has been the host of reality TV show “The Vanilla Ice Project,” where he renovates houses and resells them, since 2009.
He also emphasised the evolution and changes within the housing market. “The important thing is to know your location, it’s the same as the stock market—know your location,” he said, adding that people now want to buy houses not just near good schools but also near restaurants and gas stations (especially with rising gas prices).
When asked which market he thought was going to make the best recovery, Vanilla Ice pointed to Palm Beach, Florida—where he currently works. “There’s a lot of money in Palm Beach and I know my markets there.”
“A lot of these areas that got hit really hard during the housing downturn are some of the first areas to come back out of it,” he said. “Because they were desirable then and they’re desirable now. They just got hit with the bomb there for a minute.”
