rumours leaked out yesterday that Dwight Howard wanted Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy fired.
Well, Van Gundy told reporters that the rumour was true in a surreal press conference this morning.
“I know he has. That’s just the way it is. Again, I’ve been dealing with that all year. It’s not anything real bothersome. You go out and do your job,” he said.
“It’s 12:02 right now, if they want to fire me at 12:05 I’ll go home and find something to do. I’ll have a good day. I’m not worried about that at all.”
“The only think I’m ever uncomfortable with is bulls**t.”
Van Gundy is basically daring the Magic to fire him by going public with his private conversation with team management.
To make things even more awkward, Howard walked into the room and gave Van Gundy a hug right after he told the media that the rumour was true.
Magic GM Otis Smith later addressed the chaos, saying, “Stan is still our coach, Dwight is still a player. It’s another chapter in the saga that’s been going on since the beginning of the year.”
Here’s the video, Dwight comes in at the 2:45 mark (via TBJ):
