The penthouse at 535 West End Avenue is on the market for $37.5 million and will set a neighbourhood record if it sells close to the price, according to the WSJ. It would also rank among the 20 most expensive apartments to ever be sold in Manhattan. With more than 13,000 square feet of indoor space, and a 2,400 square foot terrace, the price per square foot is about $2,721, which is less than half of its fellow luxurious apartments in buildings like 15 Central Park West.
The penthouse was built back in 2008 by Extell development, and most people thought the duplex penthouse was for the president of Extell, Gary Barnett, and his family. But Barnett told the WSJ his family decided to stay put in their place in Queens and the penthouse would go on the market.
Raphael DeNiro, with Prudential Douglas Elliman, has the listing and he told the WSJ he suspects a New Yorker with a finance background, and a need to be near schools.
