A cyclone which has developed north of the Solomon Islands is the first of its kind for this time of year, forecasters say.
The category 1 cyclone, called Raquel, is the first recorded storm of its kind in July.
Currently sitting about 2,000 kilometres north-east of Cairns, senior forecasters told the ABC it poses no threat to Queensland.
Forecaster David Grant said: “We’ve never had a July tropical cyclone in the Queensland region before.”
Tropical cyclone season usually runs from November to April. The only other July cyclone in Australia formed off Western Australia back in 1996.
