New York City police will have to start refurbishing their wardrobes. Murray Weiss of DNAinfo.com reports that a new rule from police commissioner Raymond Kelly bans officers from owning any items with the NYPD logo—including hats, T-shirts, key chains, mugs, etc.— except their uniform.
According to the new order, cops are prohibited from wearing “any item of apparel which contains a Department logo or shield, or in any way identifies its wearer with the New York City Police Department unless approved by the Uniform and Equipment Review Committee, prior to being worn by a member of the service, uniformed or civilian, on or off-duty.”
The strict dress-code was issued after Kelly saw an officer wearing a T-Shirt with NYPD letters that said “Kill Them All and Let God Sort It Out,” sources told DNAinfo.
