Stanford routinely has one of the best athletic programs in college sports. But maybe no other single Stanford athlete has had as big an impact as Andrew Luck. And that impact goes well-beyond the football field.
According to The Business of College Sports, $15 million was pledged to the athletic department by a pair of anonymous donors, saying they were inspired by Luck. Joe Karlgaard, Stanford’s Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development, cites Luck’s commitment to returning to school for one more year, as well as his success in the classroom as reasons donors have been inspired by Luck.
That’s not bad considering the football team generated just $21.3 million in revenue during the 2010-11 school year.
