In 2007, Tumblr CEO David Karp presented his light-blogging service at the New York Tech Meetup in 2007.
Now he’s paying their bills.
Tumblr is a sponsor for the New York Tech Meetup alongside Google and Microsoft, the company announced at the monthly meetup last night.
The group, founded in 2004, has become a place where a lot of New York-based startups get their starts.
Here are some quotes from the press release:
“Our NYTM demo back in 2007 was a pivotal moment in Tumblr’s history, and we’re really excited to give back to this incredible organisation,” said David Karp, CEO, Tumblr. “As Tumblr has grown over the years, so has the NYTM, and we could not be more thrilled to support the monthly meetup as well as the larger mission to promote the NY tech industry. This thriving community has been so welcoming and encouraging through every step of Tumblr’s life, and we’re honored to be a part of it.”
“It’s a real validation of New York City’s growth as a startup mecca to have one of NY Tech Meetup’s own alumni join Microsoft and Google as sponsors,” said Andrew Rasiej, Chairman of NY Tech Meetup. “Tumblr sponsoring the NY Tech Meetup not only validates a belief in our community’s future but will help solidify Tumblr’s growing stature as another major pillar of the open web.”
