Supporters of President Donald Trump’s bid for reelection on Sunday took to the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey, slowing and stopping traffic in an effort to show support for the president, videos posted on social media show.
“We shut it down baby, we shut it down,” one person says in a 16-second video that’s circulated on social media. In the background, people can be heard shouting, blowing their horns, and playing music. While cars in the express lanes appear entirely stopped, the video shows traffic in the other lanes — separated from the stopped traffic by a barrier —appears to be moving.
According to the New Jersey Patch, the incident took place in the express lanes and along the grassy shoulder areas of the Garden State Parkway in the Holmdel area of the state. The New Jersey Department of Transportation did not immediately return Business Insider’s request for comment Sunday afternoon.
Other videos shared also showed stopped and slowed traffic, with vehicles flying the US and Trump campaign flags. MSNBC reporter and anchor Stephanie Ruhle tweeted at about 12:15 p.m. on Sunday that the express lanes near the Chessequake area were “basically shut down.” She said she saw “Trump supporters out of their cars with flags.”

In another video, posted just after 1 p.m., a supporter of the president claims that New Jersey state police were not allowing he and other members in the parade to exit the highway, claiming that the “Trump train” was “miles long.”

New Jersey State Police did not immediately return Business Insider’s request for comment Sunday, although according to the Patch, planned to release more information later Sunday
Several other people on Twitter expressed irritation about the traffic caused as a result of the apparent parade.
I’m hungover on the garden state parkway stuck in the middle of a Trump car parade I DID IT I FOUND HELL ON EARTH

The incident in New Jersey Sunday followed a Friday incident where videos showed Trump supporters closely following a Biden-Harris campaign bus as it travelled from San Antonio to Austin, Texas. The incident led to a collision, Democratic officials said. And following the Friday incident, three Democratic campaign events were cancelled in the state, with Democrats citing “security concerns,” BuzzFeed News reported.
While the president appeared to praise his supporters who were involved, the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Saturday announced it was investigating the Texas incident, the Texas Tribune reported.
