- Donald Trump’s campaign committee sent a fundraising email Tuesday in advance of the president’s prime-time address on immigration and the border wall.
- The email urges Trump supporters to donate to a “border fund” after promoting the address.
- The president’s speech has proved controversial as all the major television networks agreed to air it. Democrats, who vehemently oppose the wall, are demanding equal time.
The Trump Make America Great Committee sent out an email hours before the president’s controversial prime-time address asking Trump supporters to donate to the “Official Secure the Border Fund.”
“We need to raise $US500,000 in ONE DAY,” the email, which is signed by Trump, says. “I want to know who stood with me when it mattered most so I’ve asked my team to send me a list of EVERY AMERICAN PATRIOT who donates to the Official Secure the Border Fund.”
The email promotes Trump’s Oval Office address, which will air on all major TV networks at 9 p.m. EST Tuesday.
The networks’ decision to air the speech has drawn criticism from Democrats, who’ve said those same networks – which include NBC and ABC – refused to air a 2014 prime-time immigration address by Barack Obama because, according to the Washington Post, it was “overtly political.” According to Bloomberg, TV networks plan on airing a Democratic rebuttal.
Twitter users were quick to point out that it seems as if the president is fundraising off the Oval Office address, in which many expect him to declare a national emergency over what he has referred to as a “crisis” at the border.

In case you thought @realdonaldtrump's border security address tonight has nothing to do with his 2020 re-election, note that Trump is raising money for his "Official Secure the Border Fund" — just a fancy name for his campaign's joint fundraising committee with the RNC. pic.twitter.com/xE6rTxXW0k

The Make America Great Committee is a joint committee fundraising for the Trump 2020 campaign and the Republican National Committee. The email claims that “the American people have signed over 2,000,000 petitions demanding Democrats” build the wall.
“But Chuck and Nancy simply won’t listen,” the email says, referring to the two leading Democrats in Congress who will, after Trump’s speech, deliver their party’s rebuttal.
