Trump's Thanksgiving spread reveals a key difference between his administration and Obama's

  • President Donald Trump spent part of Thanksgiving with members of the Coast Guard.
  • The Thanksgiving spread presented to the Coast Guard was prepackaged and carb-filled.
  • Nutrition was a major focus of the Obama administration.
  • Trump’s own Thanksgiving dinner included turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, local produce, seafood, cakes, and pies.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump spent part of Thanksgiving Day with members of the US Coast Guard in Riviera Beach, Florida.

While Riviera Beach is only a 20-minute drive from the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, it seems he did not bring food from there. Instead, the table seemed to be packed with premade food and brands you could find at your local Subway.

Except for some iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and onions to top sandwiches, there didn’t seem to be a vegetable in sight – something especially striking considering the Obama administration’s focus on nutrition.

Many of the items on the table, including the soda and chips, have been condemned by nutritionists for being high in sugar or carbs.

In comparison, President Barack Obama and his family had spent past Thanksgivings working in soup kitchens – and plenty of vegetables were visible in photos.

Trump’s Thanksgiving meal in Mar-a-Lago later in the day included “turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes with marshmallows – as well as local produce, red snapper, Florida stone crab and a variety of baked goods, cakes, and pies,” a spokeswoman for the first lady told The New York Times.
