- Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, has reportedly drawn scrutiny from the president himself, just days after joining his legal team.
- Giuliani gave a series of televised interviews last week, in which he made unexpected admissions about Trump’s knowledge and his previous comments on the Stormy Daniels saga.
- But Giuliani maintains that he is the right attorney for the job, and so far, speaks to Trump almost daily.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, now President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, has reportedly fallen out of favour with Trump after a stunning media blitz last week, according to a Politico report published on Monday.
Giuliani, who joined Trump’s legal team amid the evolving Stormy Daniels scandal, drew intense scrutiny after making a series of comments that either contradicted Trump’s previous statements about the adult-film star, or seemed to reveal new, damaging information that was not previously known publicly.
Giuliani’s media interviews raised questions about Trump’s involvement in the ongoing legal fight over a $US130,000 hush-money payment to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.
Trump has reportedly soured on Giuliani due to the unexpected fallout.
On Sunday, Giuliani did not rule out the possibility that Michael Cohen, Trump’s embattled personal attorney in charge of making the payment to Daniels, may have paid other women during the 2016 US presidential campaign to stay silent about alleged encounters with Trump.
But Giuliani has yet to become completely ostracized by Trump. The two speak almost every day and Giuliani touted himself as a capable attorney for the job: “If I’m not up to it, I don’t know who is,” Giuliani said to Politico. “I know the Justice Department better than just about anyone.”
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders also pushed back against the reports, adding that Trump “certainly feels that he is an added member – added value, member to his outside special counsel,” Politico reported.
