According to this month’s issue of Travel + Leisure, The Peninsula Shanghai is the world’s best hotel for business. The hotel was voted for by Travel + Leisure readers, and scored an impressive 97.78 score out of 100. It was one of the only hotels in China to make it into the magazine’s “Top 5 Hotels for Business Worldwide 2012” list.

Seven other Peninsula Hotels — including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Tokyo — were also highly rated in their respective “Best Business Hotels” city listings, all finishing in the top three.

But due to its gorgeous lobby, sophisticated restaurants, and sleek meeting rooms, The Peninsula Shanghai stood a head above the rest.

The Peninsula Shanghai sits on the riverside Bund in Shanghai next to the famous Oriental Pearl Tower.

Take the lobby for instance, with its marble floors, hanging chandelier, and lush red chairs.

And the accommodations are just as plush. This room is called the Deluxe Guest Room, and it features city views overlooking the hotel fountain and forecourt.

Here is the Grand Deluxe River Suite, with views of the Huangpu River, the Bund, and Pudong.

All the rooms have a spacious marble bathroom with built-in plasma TV.

There's also an elegant walk-in closet.

The Grand Deluxe Suite has a circular entrance hall with its own tapestry, unique views of the city, and garden and a luxe sitting room.

The Majestic Suite has double-height living and dining rooms, a balcony, grand master bedroom, black marble bathroom with whirlpool, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

But the ultimate room is The Peninsula Suite, which has all the amenities of The Majestic Suite with an added dining room and kitchen.

If you'd rather eat somewhere else, why not try the hotel's restaurant? Executive Chef Dicky To prepares mouthwatering Cantonese dishes at the hotel's Yi Long Court restaurant.

The restaurant also has private rooms available for those want a quiet place to talk business — or enjoy a romantic evening.

Plus there's Yi Long Court's Chef Table where patrons can watch the kitchen staff at work.

And don't forget the range of specialty teas to try in the Yi Long Court Tea room.

The Lobby in The Peninsula Shanghai has a triple-height ceiling, two giant murals, and traditional English afternoon tea service.

Or skip the tea and take a dip in the 82-foot-long pool after grabbing a chilled water from the mini bars in the changing rooms.

As for nightlife, the rooftop lounge, Sir Elly's, offers fantastic views of Shanghai.

But the basement Salon de Ning bar is incredible as well, with decadent sofas, elegant wall décor, and live bands on the weekends.

The gorgeous ballroom is perfect for weddings or for larger business conferences, as it can seat up to 450 people.

And (of course) The Peninsula Shanghai has sleek and modern meeting rooms with high ceilings, natural light, and the latest audio-visual capabilities for your next business conference.

But what about the best hotel...in general?
