Tough Mudder stages the most difficult obstacle courses on Earth. The courses run up to 10 miles and take over two hours to complete. The obstacles were designed by British Special Forces, and they’re wild — barbed-wire mud pits, snow mountains, fields of dangling live wires, and eating habanero peppers before jumping into freezing cold water.
The company was founded by Englishman Will Dean when he was an MBA student at Harvard Business School. The first event was held in May of 2010, and it attracted 4,500 competitors.
Now, events are held every few weeks at locations across the country, and thousands pay the $140 registration fee to see if they are tough enough.
The course takes two hours and 15 minutes to complete on average. There are between 20-25 obstacles to overcome along the way
If a Mudder cannot complete an obstacle, a marshal steps in to determine if it is safe for him or her to continue
All Mudders get one free beer along with their standard $140 tickets, which they consume at a post-event party
