Former Sony Music Entertainment chief Tommy Mottola is moving into the fine arts realm with a new art gallery in the Hamptons (Wall Street Journal via Artfixdaily). The gallery, Gallery Valentine, opened Saturday on East Hampton’s Main Street. The current collection includes paintings priced between $5,500 and $3.5 million, including several works owned by Mottola that he’s not sure he is ready to sell, according to the WSJ.
Mottola told the WSJ that the gallery would be different than any existing art stores in the Hamptons.
From the WSJ:
“There’s never been a serious gallery out here in the Hamptons,” said Mr. Mottola, who explained that in the past several years he’s grown “more serious about art collecting.”
“It’s funny, because all the dealers live out here. I know all of them and I’m a people person. I thought, with my knowledge and experience, I’d like to try my hand at it.”
