Socceroos star Tim Cahill has positioned himself as the eighth highest earning MLS player, raking in $US3.63 million a year playing for the New York Red Bulls.
While impressive, Cahill’s salary is only half that of former FIFA World Player of the Year Kaká who will make $US7.2 million this season, despite having never played in MLS and the fact his team isn’t even in the league yet.
According to the MLS Players Union, 15 players will make at least $US1 million this season, up from nine in 2013.
The figures are the average annual guaranteed compensation players receive, including base salary and a percentage of signing and marketing bonuses.
