Tiger Woods won the AT&T National yesterday, his third win in 11 tournaments this season.
After the victory, SI tweeted out this nugget:
At first glance, it seems like that can’t possibly be true. But since November of 2009, Phil has only won the 2010 Masters, 2011 Houston Open, and 2012 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
This stat probably means we haven’t been paying attention to Phil’s decline over the past few years. But it also shows you how impossibly high we set the bar for Tiger.
This era of golf is defined by parity, where we elevate golfers for winning a tournament or two, or stringing together a few top-10s. But Tiger transcends that.
What’s good enough for Phil or Bubba or Rory still isn’t good enough for Tiger, despite the fact that we’re years removed from his glory days.
