This was the first Disney comic to ever be published in Australia

Many of the most iconic cartoon characters we know and love today started as comics.

Back in the early 20th century during “The Golden Age of Comic Books” superheros such as Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel, Captain America, and Wonder Woman were introduced to the world.

Today we enjoy the same characters, although via different formats, mostly films, television shows or games.

In 1949, Australia published its first Disney comic, staring Donald Duck on the cover.

The comic was published monthly by arrangement with Walt Disney Productions.

The cost of a subscription was “6/- a month, 10/6 per year or 6d per copy”.

It was printed in Australia by Sungravure and published by W.G. Publications PTY Ltd, 149 Castlereagh Street, Sydney.

In a rare look inside Walt Disney’s archives Business Insider was given a sneak peek at the preserved edition.

Here it is.
