Ferrari recently debuted its new 488 GTB in London. The 488 is the car maker’s successor to the 458, considered by many to the finest mid-engined V8 sports car ever created by human hands on planet Earth.
There’s a big difference between the 458 and the 488: the 488 is turbocharged. A V8 is a V8, but the 488’s is smaller than the 458’s. The goal here is to update Ferrari’s engines, adapting them to a future in which howling, air-breathing V8s will be considered gas-guzzling dinosaurs, a crude through exhilarating vestige of a vanished age.
Bottom line: the 488 is a big deal for Ferrari. And so the company created a proper celebration for the car’s roll-out in the UK. Complete with a line of 9 GTBs: a glorious column of “rosso corsa” — Ferrari red.
