Earlier we posted a chart from Citi’s U.S. Drinks and Snacks Digest of bottled water sales. Not surprisingly, bottled water sales — especially premium bottled water — plunged during the recession.
But here’s the exact opposite.
It’s a chart of the snack that children like the least: rice cakes. They’re not all that sweet. They’re not all that salty. They have the texture of styrofoam. And oh yeah, they’re rice cakes.
And guess what, rice cake sales surged during the recession! Americans obviously traded down to one of the most low-form of snack you can imagine. And now that the recession is over, rice cake sales are falling off the cliff.
