A woman who allegedly burnt an Australian flag at the Hyde Park War Memorial in Sydney yesterday was arrested by police overnight.

The 36-year-old woman was detained by police at Central Railway Station around 2.20am today after a call from the public led them to her.

She allegedly lowered the flag over the flame of remembrance in the shrine at lunchtime yesterday and burnt it. CCTV footage captured the incident and last night police released an image of the woman they were looking for.

She has been taken to Sydney City Police Station where she is assisting police with their inquiries.
