“The Walking Dead” doesn’t return to television until October, but AMC just gave fans a sneak peek at what to expect when the show comes back. The network released new photos for the series’ season eight premiere teasing new looks at Rick, Michonne, Maggie as they prepare to go up against Negan in an all out war.
The season eight premiere will be the 100th episode of the series. Ahead of the show’s return to AMC October 22, keep reading for a sneak peek at eight new photos.
They're probably starting to formulate a plan between the different communities to go after Negan and his numerous Saviour outposts.
We're guessing Rick may leave Father Gabriel in command of Alexandria to protect it from the undead while he's gone. Someone also has to keep an eye on his daughter Judith, and Gabriel has proved himself in the past when times got heated to keep her safe from harm.
Daryl will also be on the show's season eight premiere on his favourite vehicle of a choice: a motorcycle.
After escaping from Negan, Daryl is trying to keep a low profile from being found. He was told by Rick to stay in the Kingdom so Negan's Saviors don't find him. It was heartbreaking for Daryl, but we think he'll have a few friends to keep him company.
Carol previously withdrew to an abandoned home in the woods until Morgan gave her a reason to fight against Negan.
Though the two aren't romantically linked, there may be some tension there when Daryl sees the affection the Kingdom's leader, King Ezekiel, has for his best pal Carol.
Expect to see a darker mood from Morgan when the show returns. The last time we saw him, he was broken after the death of Benjamin, a teen he was training to fight.
Morgan has since ditched his passive approach to survival in which he regarded all life as precious and transformed his stick into a sharp spear. He also declared he was going to kill 'every single one of them.' The 'them' he was referring to is likely Negan's Saviors who were responsible for the death of Ben.
Actor Lennie James hinted in March his character may start to go down a more ominous path after he broke the news to Carol that her friends Glenn and Abraham were killed.
'He comes to Carol's door to say goodbye to his closest, and I mean literally, closest friend in this particular moment and time,' said James on 'Talking Dead.' 'Despite the troubles that they're going though, he's come to say goodbye.
It's also worth noting the red armband Morgan is wearing. The season eight trailer teased a few different armband colours Rick and the rest of his alliances are wearing. The colours most likely denote different teams -- the Kingdom, Alexandria, the Hilltop, etc. -- so allies know who is on their side.
Since Daryl is trying to avoid Negan's Saviors, we're a little shocked to see him here with Rick. Maybe they will be together for a short time before Daryl has to head back off to the Kingdom or maybe Daryl decides that if they're going to be taking down the Saviors anyway, it doesn't matter if the two combine forces.
Fans love seeing the Rick-Daryl bromance on screen and the two are teased together in the season eight trailer. Give the fans what they want, AMC.
It's great seeing Michonne, Carol, Maggie, and Tara together because, for the most part, each of these ladies will be on different teams during the impending war against Negan. Michonne and Tara will help lead the Alexandria community while Carol will help King Ezekiel and the Kingdom. Maggie will lead forces from the Hilltop.
The four look like they're ready for their album cover. They just need a fun band name.
Here's the big bad man Rick and his crew will be trying to take down: Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). He may think he's surrounded by two of his closest allies (Dwight and Eugene), but that may not be the case.
Dwight has already gone behind Negan's back to form a secret alliance with Rick to act as a double agent in the pending war. Eugene is a coin toss. He's currently comfortable in a position of power and safety, but could he really fight against his friends that have kept him safe? We wouldn't be surprised if he also became a double agent. Then again, the self-serving Eugene could easily flip flop sides depending on who is winning in the war.
