In last night’s episode of “Mad Men,” Don Draper was on the hunt to get The Rolling Stones to sing a jingle for Heinz Baked Beans. As ridiculous as converting “Time Is on My Side” to “Heinz is on my Side” may sound, it may not have been too much of a stretch.
As Don Draper tells a Stones groupie, the band did do an English cereal ad in 1963. Here’s a video this video of The Rolling Stones’ Rice Krispies commercial:
Spoiler Alert: While Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce didn’t win The Stones—Harry accidentally signed a band called The Tradewinds, which was actually an early form of Styx, instead—another real-life band was interested in singing about baked beans.
Slate points out that The Who recorded a spoof jingle for Heinz Baked Beans on their 1967 album The Who Sells Out. Is this the new “Zou Bisou Bisou?”
