The Next Leader Of Al Qaeda

The next leader of Al Qaeda could be Ayman Al-Zawiya, a member of Bin Laden’s inner circle who has evaded capture.

It could be Abu Yahya al-Libby, a young star of the terrorist organisation who has evaded capture.

The Guardian diagrammed Al Qaeda’s leaders, with the living candidates in blue. Click here for an interactive version.

Many of these men are at Guantanamo, including Abu Zubadayah, Abu Farraj al-Libby, Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Al-Adel and Al-Suri are also in prison. Al-Awlaki is not.
