Kara Liotta is a jack-of-all-trades in the New York City fitness world.
She’s the Creative Director of FlyBarre, the popular sculpting class from the FlyWheel spin empire in the US. But on top of that, Kara, 30, is also a Nike trainer and ambassador, Wilhelmina fitness model, yogi, dancer and active Instagrammer with over 15,000 followers.
We asked Kara to show us, in pictures, what a typical day in her life is like. Here’s what she came back with.
Kara usually teaches her first FlyBarre class of the day at 7 a.m. -- but today, she was leading the extra-early 6 a.m. session. Here she is getting dressed in her Williamsburg, Brooklyn, apartment at 4:45 a.m.
Kara grabbed a cup of coffee on the way to Manhattan, and made it to FlyWheel by 5:15 a.m., before the sun was even up.
Before class, Kara stretched out in the FlyBarre studio and did a sound check, to make sure that everything was in order. A big component of FlyBarre is music -- each instructor makes their own playlist, and every exercise is aligned with and synced to a song.
Kara taught back-to-back classes between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. Afterwards, she headed to a nearby coffee shop for a latte, and ate a protein bar for breakfast.
Kara was teaching three FlyBarre classes today. She ends up doing a lot of the exercises when she teaches -- which entails a whole lot of muscular work. To get in some cardio (and make it a complete workout), she took the 9:30 a.m. FlyWheel spin class at the studio.
At 11:30 a.m., Kara met with a magazine editor to take some sample shots of an exercise routine she would be shooting the next day.
Next, Kara stopped by the Wilhelmina offices to pick up new 'comp cards' -- which are essentially business cards for models. The cards include pictures of the model and their stats (such as height and eye colour).
By 12:30, Kara was in a cab, headed to a casting. For some shoots, publications or brands request to work with Kara directly, but for others, the fitness model has to audition.
After the casting, Kara arrived home to Brooklyn around 2:30 p.m. On the way, she picked up her favourite lunch: a salad from Sweetgreen.
Kara usually spends 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day making calls and playlists, and today was no different. She had a call with Nike about an upcoming training project, emails to catch up on for FlyBarre and music to select for the next day's classes.
That night, Kara made dinner at home with her girlfriend, Kate. Her evenings are generally pretty relaxed, since she spends so much time and energy working out in the mornings.
