Remember that mysterious, well-dressed Picasso thief who snuck out of a San Francisco art gallery with a 1965 Picasso pencil drawing and made off in a waiting taxi?Apparently, the shoeless stealer was not so clever after all.
Police just caught the culprit, who has been identified as Mark Lugo, a New Jersey native who worked as a sommelier at many upscale New York restaurants, including Per Se and BLT Fish, reports SFGate.
The rare drawing, “Tête de Femme (Head of a Woman),” was found boxed-up and ready to be shipped in the Hotel Palomar room Mr. Lugo was occupying while visiting Napa over the July Fourth weekend.
Lupo has been hit with multiple charges, including suspicion of burglary, theft, drug possession, and possession of stolen property.
His bail has been set at $5 million.
