I hoped The Daily would be the next generation newspaper but it is nothing more than an expensive dud.
News Corp and Rupert Murdoch talked about throwing away the existing newspaper model and creating a modern news platform. I am astonished at the lack innovation with and absence of basic modern day web tools. Basic tools such as deep social integration, game mechanics and real localisation are missing from The Daily.
New’s Corp spent 30 million dollars on nothing more than what looks like a News website optimised for the iPad. The Daily does not differ much from the WSJ App, CNBC App or any of the other iPad Newspaper Apps.
News Corp could have created a next generation experience with an acquisition of a startup like FlipBoard combined with mixing in professional and social content.
