In a rare move in which a professional sports franchise put their fans ahead of a cheap buck, on the 50th anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain scoring 100 points, the Philadelphia 76ers handed out pieces of the court on which the amazing feat happened.The original court from Hershey, Pennsylvania, had been in storage and a large portion will be retained by the 76ers and put on display. Another section of the court will be given to the basketball hall of fame.
But, in what may be the coolest giveaway ever, over 18,000 fans in attendance on Friday night received a 2″x2″ section of the court (see picture above).
Of course, the 76ers could have sold the pieces and likely made a hefty profit. Then again, the Yankees are still trying to sell pieces of their old stadium, three years after they tore it down.
