The 18 richest people in private equity

Stephen Schwarzman (R) and his wife Christine Mike Theiler/ReutersSteve Schwarzman, of Blackstone Group, and wife Christine.

Forbes’ magazine has released its annual world’s billionaires list today, and 18 of those people made their money in private equity.

Last year was a good year for PE — the strongest since the financial crisis, according to research firm Preqin. In June, PE and venture capital assets under management reached a new high of $US3.8 trillion, the report said.

We’ve gone ahead and compiled a list of the biggest winners in the industry (classified by Forbes under “private equity” or, in Schwarzman’s case, “investments”).

Respect.
