UPDATEThe Red Sox and manager Terry Francona have parted ways after a meeting at Fenway this afternoon.
Here’s the club statement (via ESPN):
“Tito said that after eight years here he was frustrated by his difficulty making an impact with the players, that a different voice was needed, and that it was time for him to move on. After taking time to reflect on Tito’s sentiments, we agreed that it was best for the Red Sox not to exercise the option years on his contract.”
Terry Francona is expected to part ways with the Boston Red Sox this morning, according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
Rather the firing him, the club would simply decline Francona’s options for next year and 2013.
Rosenthal described the departure as “likely” but “not certain”.
Francona led the club to World Series championships in 04 and 07.
