It’s just over two weeks since Telstra suffered another major network outage, the fourth in two months for Australia’s largest telco. As an apology, the company is again offering customers a day of free, unlimited data this Sunday, 3 April.
It’s the second free data day Telstra offered customers to make up for its outages. The last one in February saw users rack up more than 1841 terabytes of data. The telco says it was the busiest day on its network ever. One particular customer chewed through 425GB data by himself.
The latest make up day will start at midnight on Sunday, and will actually last for 25 hours in most states when you count the extra hour due to the end of daylight savings.
“On behalf of everyone at Telstra, please accept my sincere apologies for the recent disruption to the Telstra mobile network,” Telstra wrote in an email to customers.
“We are deeply disappointed that this problem occurred and are working hard to prevent this happening again.
“To help make up for any inconvenience, we hope you can take advantage of our free data day within Australia this Sunday 3 April, 2016. Whether you’re on a pre-paid or post-paid mobile, tablet or mobile broadband plan, you will automatically receive free data, from midnight to midnight in your local Australian time zone, on Sunday 3 April 2016.”
