These three and a half minutes of interview and commentary are some of the strangest you will ever see.Ted Nugent appeared on CBS this morning, a little more than two weeks after he popped up in the national news cycle because of comments directed at President Obama that got him in hot water with the Secret Service.
This also got him taken out of a lineup for a concert at the Fort Knox military base.
The first Nugent tick in this CBS interview comes when Jeff Glor says that he is “not moderate.”
“Have you done a lot of interviews?” Nugent asks Glor.
“A good amount,” Glor says.
“Call me when you sit across from someone who has more families with dying little boys and girls who get a call to take them on their last fishing trip in life. Call me when you meet someone who does that more than I do.
“Because that’s really moderate. That’s extreme. I’m an extremely loving and passionate man. And people who investigate me honestly, without the baggage of political correctness, ascertain the conclusion that I’m a damn nice guy. If you can find a screening process more powerful than that…” The video cuts away as Nugent goes on an expletive-laced rant.
“We have no idea where that unexpected outburst came from,” said Glor, narrating.
Of the Secret Service meeting, during which the matter was resolved, he said he wasn’t surprised when the Secret Service contacted him. And then he absolutely blasted “brain dead liberals” for turning it into a Secret Service issue.
“Anyway, so we had a meeting and it was serious, dead serious, because I can actually be serious, and it was serious. … I feel sorry for liberals who can be that brain dead as to take a clear statement of fear on my part and turn it into a threat against somebody else.”
And remember when Glor said he had no idea where the outburst came from? That’s where it gets stranger. After the interview is over, Glor is in the studio for some commentary. He tells the rest of the morning crew that after the interview, Nugent was rushed to the emergency room and had a kidney stone removed, which “may have contributed to his high level of energy.”
